The Client is a significant healthcare hospital system in the Washington DC area. They have a long, outstanding history of providing exceptional state-of-the-art medical services. Areas of expertise include Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, Oncology, Women and Infant Health, Pediatrics, Outpatient Services, Orthopedics, Acute Stroke, Acute Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Psychiatric and Addiction Services, and Emergency Medicine. This organization is currently in the process of completing a new and advanced high tech hospital. This multi-million dollar project will provide the community with a first class, state-of-the-art environment including leading edge IT capabilities for the medical staff allowing for the delivery of bedside technology to every patient.

This newly created position offers the opportunity to create a vision for clinical systems, define a strategy for delivery and build a supportive organization. In particular, this position will set the clinical system vision for clinical process redesign and re-implementation of IDX from 4.2 to 5.2. Reporting directly to the CIO, the Director of Clinical Systems Delivery will be a key member of the management team that is transforming the IT organization to one that is very customer and patient focused and driven towards delivering results.

The Director of Clinical Systems Delivery will be responsible for improving business processes and supporting critical business strategies by directing the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical systems applications. Specific accountabilities include:

  • Leading the support effort for IDX Lastword Hospital System Application, as well as various other supported applications including EDIX, IDXRad, HBOC, Pyxis 2000, Cerner OR, HBOC Decision Support.
  • Formulating clinical systems architecture plans, estimating costs and ensuring that projects deliver strategic requirements. Providing leadership in planning for future required capabilities.
  • Supervise staff, providing leadership and guidance. Must be skillful in providing effective performance feedback. Will also be responsible for attracting and retaining new staff as required.
  • Provide leadership for clinical systems project support, coordinating projects for system installation, including needs evaluation, analysis of hardware and software requirements, identification and selection of vendors, definition of training requirements, and installation of application systems and maintenance of system.

The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing or related healthcare field, and MBA preferred. He/she will have a minimum of 10 years of experience working with and managing clinical healthcare systems. Career background will reflect a combination of medical surgical nursing experience with a high level of expertise in IDX and analytical nature that has resulted in a progression to either a IT Clinical Applications Management position or consultant role.

A cornerstone of this individuals success will be a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a highly matrixed organization and a clear track record of delivering projects that meet clients needs in all areas of functionality, scalability, financial targets and deadlines. He/she must be a very strong leader, possessing extraordinary interpersonal and facilitation skills. Must be a very polished professional who can quickly garner support and be seen as the go to clinical systems expert. He/she must be driven to get results and bring to that drive a strong sense of vision and creativity.
